Advantages of 125-200cc Scooters
Better Performance
A quality 125-200cc scooter will quite happily run all day and even be capable of doing the occasional freeway ride at 100km/h, some slightly above. Taking them out on the main roads of WA will be a much more pleasant and much more safe on the road. You won’t experience tailgaters, or running the risk of being pushed on the sides by a car overtaking very narrowly. You won’t have to plan ahead when to change lanes on dual carriageways! You’d be surprised at the difference it makes, and how much safer you feel when you take one for a ride.
Better Technology
The engines in this class are all four strokes (like your car), rather than two strokes (like your lawnmower). 4-stroke engines are quieter, more efficient, more reliable and more environmentally friendly. They use less fuel, they start more easily and they last longer. And you don’t need to top up oil every 1000 kilometers like on a 2-stroke engine.
Increased Safety
With Euro 4 emission & safety standards being phased in by all manufacturers, newer 125cc models have to be fitted with Combined Braking (CBS) at the minimum and everything above 125cc with Anti lock Braking Systems (ABS). While some older (and probably cheaper) models are still available without these features, braking assistance systems no doubt enhance your safety on the road.
Better Training
There are no real disadvantages in choosing a 125-200cc model over a 50cc scooter. What hinders most people to go for the safer option is licensing: For anything larger than a 50cc scooter you need a LAMS license (R-E or R-EA). Doing a license will give you the skills you need to navigate through traffic and keep you safe. Overall it’s actually not too hard and our trusted instructors will guide you through the process quicker than you think.
