The Scarabeo 200 is a remarkable machine in a number of ways:
Firstly performance: Traditionally the engine size preferred for freeway travel has tended to be 250cc and higher, largely because the smaller engines were much simpler (often air coolled and carburetted). The Scarabeo 200 features the same technologies as its larger engined siblings, allowing performance close to a 250cc machine, certainly more than enough to be truly freeway capable (ie easily does 100km/h with a decent bit more in reserve).
Secondly, the large wheels: Very typical of the Aprilia range, they provide a stable and confident handling very similar to that experienced on motorbikes.
And finally, the price: At Ace Scooters the price difference between our immensely popular 150cc Piaggio Fly, and our lowest priced 250/300 has been over $4,000. That’s a pretty significant price margin. The Scarabeo 200 fits snuggly in the middle, allowing freeway capability on a new scooter, without breaking the bank.
Other features include a flat platform providing greater space for load carrying, a windshield fixed to the steering head deviates air flow over the rider, guaranteeing turbulence-free travel even at high speed. Generous analog-digital instrumentation includes an on-board computer with handlebar controls: the system’s many functions include outside air temperature display.
The one downside due to the large wheel size, the underseat storage is less than generous. However at time of writing, Aprilia are offering a free topbox with the scooter! How good is that!
